The images conjured up by the key messages began to inspire more poetry around each theme. Daniela worked with the group to craft these into draft pieces for the final Artwork Poetry. You can see them here:

Have a Voice

I’m just like zippy
Locked lips. Throw away the key
Ready to be unzipped.

My words go unheard
You won’t understand my thoughts
I speak gibberish

Don’t Hide

I block out the world
I feel like the only girl
I hide what’s inside

Lose Lose

Being right is wrong
Pain thrashes through her body
Winning is losing

The dice isn’t fair
You lose every time you play
I’ll take my chances

Weight on my Shoulders

It’s too much for one soul
Over time it takes its toll
Buried in a hole

It’s too much for one soul
Over time it takes its toll
Not everything can be kept inside
It feels like all the world’s emotions are inside of you
All the weight on top of you

You’re beautiful as you Are

You don’t need makeup
To hide away your feelings
Truth is beautiful

Overflowing

Water overflows
Too much emotion pours out
Those feelings are mine

Afraid to let you Close

Keep away from me
I am lonely and afraid
But you might hurt me

Don’t talk to me now
I might hurt you with my words
I cannot trust you

Scraping Nails

The scraping drowns out
echoes of the thunderstorm
that rages downstairs

The thundering noise
rattles through the house like fear
I scrape til I bleed

Blood drips down the wall
I cringe in pain at the sound
It drowns out the shouts

Don’t Pretend

Do not wear a mask
It will cover your true face
I’m no pretender

Poetry

We’ve learnt to haiku
And we’ve learnt to tanka too
We love poetry
